BASC was founded in 1908 as the Wildfowlers’ Association of Great Britain and Ireland (WAGBI) by Stanley Duncan FZS and exists to ensure the future of sporting shooting. With a staff of over 100, the Association has experts on shooting, conservation, research, land management, education, public relations and political lobbying. It also has a six-strong full-time firearms team, available to offer free advice over the telephone to members.
Advisory Services – BASC offers advice on firearms licensing, land management, the law relating to sporting shooting and response to media articles and programmes.
Courses – A large number of courses are held throughout the United Kingdom covering such subjects as deer stalking and wildfowling. Our ‘SAFE SHOT’ course is available at shows and events around the country to show others that you can be trusted to handle a gun safely.
Publications – The Association’s member journal Shooting & Conservation is published every 2 months and is sent to all members. Codes of practice, explanatory leaflets, email newsletters, books and information sheets on a wide variety of subjects are also available.
Regional Activities – BASC has its Head Office in Rossett, with regional offices in South East and
South-West, Northern, Central England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Through these offices the Association can initiate regional activities and respond quickly to local issues.
Membership – BASC is the UK’s largest country shooting organisation with an increasing number of people who have the good of country sports and the countryside at heart joining.
