Phil Gray
Five minutes with Eley Hawk Ambassador Phil Gray.
What first inspired you to get into shooting?
My dad introduced me to shooting and was a keen shot himself. He bought me my first gun at 10 years old.
What’s your go-to Eley Hawk cartridge, and why?
For clays VIP Trap 28g 7.5. They are consistent and there is low recoil and great patterning. For game it would be an Eley Hawk Zenith pro eco 36g 3 - there is no other cartridge out there that kills like them.
Describe your proudest shooting moment or career highlight.
Winning both the English Open sporting and British Open sporting in 2025
What one piece of advice would you give to someone wanting to improve their shooting?
Find a coach that you trust and can relate to and practice, practice, practice.
Do you have a favourite ground or competition venue, and what makes it stand out for you?
Eaton Hall is my favourite ground to work as a shooting coach, compete at and practice.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your clay shooting career, and how did you overcome it?
I’ve been very fortunate to have never faced a massive challenge in my shooting career. If the day comes where I have to face one I will overcome it with hard work and dedication
