Get to know the driving force behind the Dynamic Ladies Shooting Club.
My name is Mhairi-Ann Troup, the head coach and owner of Dynamic Ladies Shooting Club.
Having shot and competed in clay shooting since the age of eight, I gained my CPSA instructor qualification in 2004 and in 2020 decided to form Dynamic Ladies Shooting Club (DLSC). This was driven by my determination to introduce more women into the sport and do my bit to reduce the huge gulf in numbers of male and female shooters from grass roots level (currently only around 6% are female).
DLSC is a clay shooting club exclusively for women. It is not a sexist or feminist thing, I wanted to provide a pathway into the sport for women who may otherwise find the shooting grounds intimidating and I pride myself on making lessons fun and engaging. This proved very popular, particularly coming out of lockdown in 2020 and four and a half years later, the club is flourishing. We welcome women of all ages and abilities and from all walks of life. The club provides different appeals for different people. Some take advantage of discounted lessons with myself, to get them in to the sport, or hone their skills. Others love the regular in-house group shoots we hold, as well as external competitions we enter teams for. This was most recently evident at a Charity competition at Sporting Targets, where we took six full squads. Seeing so many ladies there in DLSC branded clothing (the hot pink and black that is synonymous with the club) filled me with pride and gave the ladies a real sense of togetherness and of being part of something fantastic.
As well as the lessons and groups shoots, we also have a social element to the club, which is so important for members to bond and form new friendships
.
I really am so excited about the future of the club and will be looking to roll out to other areas of the UK by offering as a franchise, to any instructors or shooting grounds who would be interested in providing the same platform for women under the DLSC banner.
The recognition from my peers and clients of what I do and how I do it has blown me away. I won the CPSA Coach of the Year in 2016 and was runner-up in the same category in 2023 and 2024, runner-up in the Sports Personality category in 2022, as well as being shortlisted as a finalist for Coach of the Year again in 2025.
I would encourage women everywhere to give it a go and join the DLSC revolution!
